A man who has had enough of Maltese potholes yesterday filed an official letter against the transport authority claiming €320 to pay for damage done to his car when it ploughed into one such hole.

Francis Basile, the proud owner of a Mini Cooper, was driving down Balal Street on the outskirts of San Ġwann when he hit a sizeable pot hole and cracked his car's wheel rim. The accident happened at night and with no street lamps along the pot-holed stretch, Mr Basile did not stand a chance.

He filed the letter against the Malta Transport Authority holding them responsible for the damage caused to his vehicle as the authority had "failed to repair and maintain the road in a good state as they are legally obliged to".

Mr Basile gave the authority four days to pay up. Lawyer John Gauci appeared for Mr Basile.
