On May 1, Badminton Malta held the finals of the Malta National Championship. It was a joy to watch the country's elite players combat each other to win this prestigious title. Unfortunately, during the men's singles final, one of the players, David Cole, sustained a serious foot injury. Obviously, play had to be suspended.
This athlete also had to play in the men's doubles final, and because of the injury, even that game had to be cancelled.
However, the opposing athletes did something that will be remembered and recorded for years to come. Kenneth Vella, who was playing the men's final with Mr Cole, and the Salamone brothers, Stefan and Robert, decided out of their own free will, to postpone play till Mr Cole recovers from his injury.
In the presence of the official sponsors Eurosport and Janatha Stubbs, Franz Vella and John Attard, president and general secretary of Badminton Malta commended these athletes for their truly noble gesture.
Well done to these athletes and let them be a beacon for Badminton Malta and sport in general.
