Charged with raping young woman

A Libyan was yesterday remanded in custody after he was charged with raping a 23-year-old French woman in St Julians. The 28-year-old, Ahmed El Ghezawi, who was staying in a hotel in Ball Street, Paceville, denied raping the woman between 4 and 5 a.m.

A Libyan was yesterday remanded in custody after he was charged with raping a 23-year-old French woman in St Julians.

The 28-year-old, Ahmed El Ghezawi, who was staying in a hotel in Ball Street, Paceville, denied raping the woman between 4 and 5 a.m. on Friday morning.

Police sources said the woman had been walking home when the alleged attack took place.

They also pointed out that Mr Ghezawi was in Malta without a visa.

Magistrate Antonio Mizzi took into consideration the seriousness of the charges and remanded the accused in custody. Police Inspector Trevor Micallef prosecuted.
