The secretary of Vittoriosa Stars football club was fined €116 today after he admitted he held a street party on Sunday to celebrate the team's promotion to the Premier League.

Gerard Ellul, 39 of Vittoriosa, was arraigned under arrest and accused of having held the party in Desain Street without police permission.

Defence Counsel Edward Gatt said that the fact his client had held a disco should not have resulted in an arraignment under arrest since this was a contravention.

Magistrate Lawrence Quintano jovially told the accused that his father would probably has celebrated too, as he was a supporter.

He however fined him €116.
