Years of electricity bills for a place 'with no meter'
An exasperated man yesterday claimed he has been receiving electricity bills for seven years for a place which is not supplied with power.
Alfred Xuereb filed a judicial protest against Enemalta claiming that, despite numerous complaints and visits from surveyors, the corporation kept sending bills which now amount to €1,000.
He said he had bought the property some years back and around seven years ago received the first electricity bill. He complained and the energy company sent a surveyor.
However, despite the surveyor seeing that the building had no meter, the company persisted in sending bills.
Over the years surveyors made around 20 visits as they would send one every time he complained, Mr Xuereb said. But nothing would come of it and the bills just kept coming.
He also alleged that he had received threats from the company, telling him that if he did not pay the outstanding bills they would shut off his father's electricity and water supply.
Mr Xuereb said he has lost all hope of dealing with the company and is holding them responsible for damages. He asked them to delete the account with his name on it and to stop threatening him.

This is a glaring case of incompetence. The Chairman should shoulder responsibility and bow out. Those in the chain of command who wouldn't care less about good practices and the pain and suffering they are causing to the hapless citizen, should be weeded out and shown the door. Had a similar thing to happen in a private service provider company, the culprit would be given the order of the boot!. Let's see some resolute action for once, even if it has to take the Prime Minister to do it. I am fed up with having to deal with amateurs who spend their day watching the clock to sprint back home, instead of taking their job seriously and responsibly.

Something similar is happening to me. Thirteen years ago Enemalta stopped sending me bills for a garage in Mosta. We phoned them repeatedly to no avail. Recently they came to change the meter and in their infinite wisdom finally decided to send a bill. The only fly in the ointment is that they decided it was a commercial property and the bill amounted to 700 euros. This for a 2 car garage which is totally unused and in which the electricity is never switched on. The whole 700 euros is for the meter rental. How?s that for incompetence. I have been arguing with them for the past year but its like talking to a wall.

"telling him that if he did not pay the outstanding bills they would shut off his father's electricity and water supply." I am sorry??? What right do they have to cut ANOTHER PERSONS supply off, Enemalta should not be able to threaten this. On their computer they should be two seperate people/accounts etc.
What next "If you dont pay your phone bill, we will cut off your Nanas Easyline!" :)

After useless repeated visits (about 21 in all we are told) by Enemalta surveyors - who, I should reasonably presume, were neither blind nor incapable of drawing up a proper report to their counterparts in the billing section - I would not wonder if the poor soul would continue receiving further bills until the judicial protest is somehow seen to by the Courts!! Chi va piano va sano e va lontano - ma perde il treno. Il povero Signor Xuereb ha gia perso la pazienza!!

Mr Chairman, Directors, and management of both Enemalta and WSC incharge of billing should immediatly resign as they and their departments are absolutely useless.
