The Resources Ministry has terminated a contract with a private contractor who had been engaged to carry out stone dressing and finishing works on the parvis of Sta Venera parish church.

In a statement, the ministry said the work was supposed to have been completed in August last year but, after many meetings, it was only taken in hand last February and had not been completed.

The ministry said such delays were detrimental to the community and had caused an inconvenience for Church functions.

It said such situations would not be tolerated and it would take legal action demanding that the contractor, Coralline Stone Malta, pay the penalties specified in the contract, which amounted to some €25,000.
