A man charged with stealing vanswas remanded in custody this afternoon.
Keith Pace, 28, of Marsa, was remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to stealing a Ford Transit on March 28, and a Toyota Liteace on May 3. He was also accused of setting the Toyota van on fire, disobeying police orders, and relapsing.
The Court heard that the police had gone to search his house. Although he first allowed them in and let them search, he then stopped them and asked for a warrant after they found a considerable amount of money.
The police suspended the search for two hours until the warrant was issued.
WOMAN ADMITS STEALING PHONE FROM LAW COURTS
In another case, 18-year-old Sarah Zammit of Birkirkara pleaded guilty to stealing a Nokia mobile phone from the Courts on Friday. She also admitted to handling stolen property, conspiring with a man to committ the crime and of breaching the conditions of four previous releases.
After taking into consideration that she was a relapser, Magistrate Mizzi jailed her for two years hoping this would be her first and last time in prison. He hoped she would come out a better person.
