Enemalta asked to stop billing property which has no electricity
A property owner today filed a judicial protest against Enemalta, saying he was being sent electricity bills relating to a property in Marsa which had no electricity supply.
Alfred Xuereb said he bought the property some years ago. It was condemned and did not have an electricity meter. Yet over the past seven years he had received electricity bills and an outstanding amount of €1,000 was being shown.
He said that he had protested to Enemalta who sent a surveyor who had confirmed that there was no electricity service in the property.
Yet the bills continued to be received. Enemalta sent the surveyor 20 times, but there was no stopping the bills and the balance continued to increase in an inexplicable manner.
Mr Xuereb said he had even been warned that the electricity supply to his father's residence would be cut off.
He said he had given up dealing with Enemalta and was now calling on it to stop billing him and withdraw its threat to cut off electricity to his father's house.

Some years back I have been asked by Enemalta to pay a third person's bill issued on my address when the said third person never ever resided at my address.
Luckily things were shortly clarified in my case.

i had the same thing last year billed for 1450 euro pay or be cut off. after taking a meter reading i found out that over the years 7500 units were some how added onto my bill? well it ended up they owed me. but still i have a an areas some how of 1000 euros??

Unfortunately I had a similar experience, and Enemalta employees threaten you that they will suspend your home electricity ( although the bills are related to another business premises )on a Friday afternoon so as you will not get the supply before the following week. I ask is this legal? And if yes, is this the way of helping SME s and self-employed. We hear a lot of aid from European Union, Malta Enterprise, and then on a Euro 300 bill you have your home electricity suspended,

I think it is about time a serious auditor investigates Enemalta and what citizens are being charged!

Colin Camilleri, just in case you have not noticed we do pay Taxes after we are dead. These are called inheritance tax and as we physically can't pay them ourselves in the form of a donation tax they have to be paid by our loved ones.

It is not enough that the maltese people have to pay horrendous electricity bills. Now even those who have no electricity meters must pay for electricity they didn't use. Now what's next? Shall we assume that we must carry on paying taxes long after we are dead?
