A total of 895 irregular immigrants have been registered as gainfully occupied since 2003 and pay income tax and social security contributions, Finance Minister Tonio Fenech said in reply to a parliamentary question.

Two migrants are registered as being employers, the minister told Owen Bonnici (PL).

Meanwhile the Prime Minister said in reply to another parliamentary question that the AFM plans to acquire a new maritime patrol aircraft by the end of next year. The purchase is to be jointly funded by the EU External Borders Fund and the Maltese government.

The AFM currently has nine patrol boats, two maritime patrol aircraft, three helicopters and four small fixed wing aircraft.
