Floriana not Valletta
It is becoming a bad habit in the media and elsewhere to describe the location of the hotels Phoenicia and Excelsior as Valletta. Both these five-star hotels are officially within the limits of Floriana.

Hi, I agree that Valletta would be the place their name should be Listed. After all it`s the capital of Malta. Come on City !!

Why do some people don't realize that Floriana is a suburb of Valletta and thus forms part of the city. No one says France's most modern stadium is at St Denis (a suburb of Paris), but in Paris. Everybody knows that Westminster Abbey and Westminster Cathedral are in London. No one claims that they are in Westminster (in spite of the name).
The Phoenicia and Excelsior hotels are in Valletta, as is the Valletta Waterfront.
I've just returned from Catania. Surprise! Surprise! The destination sign at my check-in counter referred to La Valletta, Malta. How stupid of the Italians for not indicating my destination as Luqa (or is it Gudja). Even sporting circles abroad refer to our national stadium in Valletta.

@ Edwin Mifsud: But it is good to explain the reasoning behind your statement to Mr. Bonello and all the Floriana people. Valletta is renowned internationally. Floriana is not.

The famous Big Ben is not in London but in Westminster. To make things easier for the tourist it is said that it is in London.
If a tourist is planning on holiday and told that he is going to the Floriana waterfront his response will probably be “The where waterfront”.
But the “Valletta” waterfront will make more sense to the tourist.

So what?

Probably due to the fact that Floriana is merely a suburb of Valletta, a box-room so to speak.

Why don't call it Grand Harbour Waterfront, or Valletta Harbour Waterfront.
The grand harbour is also known s Valletta Harbour. The emphasis will be on the real thing "harbour".

Indeed.
I do not know where the border lines are. But is it really the "VALLETTA Waterfront" ?
Physically it sems to me to be the FLORIANA Waterfront.
Let Floriana get its fair due. Too bad that in years gone by, we used to beat them regularly at football, in the Old Firm games !

This is because since they are both internationally renowned hotels, it would be better if they set the main city instead of the suburb as their location.
