A man has denied threatening to chop his former girlfriend's head off after she had filed a police report about him.

Brian Bonnett, 39, called up his girlfriend earlier this week, spoke to her daughter, who is a minor, and told her to pass on a message to her mother, a court heard yesterday. He allegedly told the girl that if her mother did not drop the report against him he would chop her head off.

This is not the first time the couple have been to court and still have pending proceedings over a fight between them in a Gzira bar last year.

Mr Bonnett pleaded not guilty to making the threat and breaching the public peace.

Magistrate Silvio Meli granted him bail against a personal guarantee of €2,000.

Lawyer Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi appeared for the accused.
