Labour leader Joseph Muscat keeps harping on the fact that nothing (according to him) is being done to stop the influx of immigrants. He is now very pleased that Martin Schulz, the leader of the Socialist group in the European Parliament, has assured him that he will be fighting Malta's cause. It's all very well to discuss the matter with a Socialist member of the European Parliament, but why stop there?
Why not also discuss and work hand in hand with the government and perhaps propose some concrete solutions? The irony of the matter is that, while Dr Muscat is placing blind faith in Mr Schulz, the members of the EP Socialist Group (PES), the very same group Martin Schulz leads, have been lobbying and voting in favour of integrating immigrants into European societies and in favour of giving immigrants the right to vote. Do we really want immigrants to help elect our governments? Do we really want to trust Malta's fate in Mr Schulz's hands?
