A garden in the heart of Rabat - Gnien Bir Iljun, has been passed on to the town's council by the central government.

Lands Parliamentary Secretary Jason Azzopardi said that this and other devolution of property showed the government's belief in the need of assisting councils in their work so that they would be there for residents.

The devolution was in line with the councils' reform which was designed to place the people as the centre of council work, he said.

The garden covers 1,100 square metres of land.

During the same ceremony, Dr Azzopardi also passed on property within the civic centre to the 7th Rabat Girl Guides. They would be developing the office as a meeting place for children. The group has about 100 members who meet weekly.
