GonziPN had promised a one-year tax break for women either currently employed or who were not absent from active employment for more than five years, and who had children since 2007. This promise was further confirmed in the last budget speech. Like Sarah Portelli who penned a recent letter, I am still dumbfounded how a "one-year tax break" for working mothers suddenly becomes a tax benefit which cannot exceed €2,000. Women in higher tax brackets and who pay significant amounts of taxes annually are being discriminated against.
Maybe the Finance Minister can give us some kind of explanation for his sudden change of plan? Failing to maintain promises is a sign of unreliability, and an unreliable government is not to be trusted. So like Ms Portelli, I will definitely bear this in mind come next election. Shame on GonziPN.
