Illegal Immigration is a political issue - AN

Azzjoni Nazzjonali said today that a PN statement issued two days ago confirmed that there was a conspiracy by the other political parties to downplay the issue of illegal immigration.

"In a knee jerk reaction which has become typical of the way it has always handled the immigration crisis, the PN has accused the PL of 'breaking up the national consensus on illegal immigration that had been the norm for years'" AN said.

It said it was never part of that ‘consensus’ - it had always defended and had never betrayed the national interest for political convenience. Nor had it used the issue to garner populist sentiment as many falsely claimed.

The party said that the claim that illegal immigration should not be made a political issue was a bogus one and such an absurd claim could only be espoused by those who either did not have the stomach to do what was necessary to defend the people or by those who did not care over whom they ruled as long as they exercised the privileges of power.

Azzjoni Nazzjonali said it was convinced that the newly found urgency being shown by the PN and the equally newly found voice by the PL was nothing but political posturing ahead of an election.
