Maroni should stop playing 'Russian roulette' - AD

Alternattiva Demokratika said today that Italian Home Affairs Minister Roberto Maroni needed to stop playing Russian roulette in the migrants issue,

Party chairman Arnold Cassola referred to Italy's refusal to assist two boats 56 miles away from Lampedusa this morning.

"Roberto Maroni, Italy's Interior Minister from xenophobic party Lega Nord, should stop playing about with human lives in order to increase his party's electoral vote at the European elections. Italy is bound by international law to respond to distress calls off its national coast," he said.

Prof Cassola said Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi should report his PPE colleague Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi to the EU Commission President Barroso, he himself a member of the PPE, for the inhuman behaviour of the Italian government and disrespect of international law could not be tolerated.
