Burglars who helped themselves to a shop's till gave a whole new meaning to the term break-in - they drove a stolen car right into the Chick King fast food outlet in Marsascala.
Their takings only amounted to some €500 but it was all over in minutes.
Yesterday, a 27-year-old was placed on probation after pleading guilty to the theft. He cannot be named through court order, however, as he is helping the police with ongoing investigations into the burglary, which took place on January 26.
He admitted to stealing the cash from the Marsascala outlet, stealing a car and a set of number plates used in the crime and relapsing.
Police Inspector Raymond Cassar and defence lawyer Kris Busietta approached the bench to discuss the case and the punishment with Magistrate Michael Mallia, and returned with the accused saying that he would be pleading guilty.
After taking into consideration that the man had fully cooperated with the police and was ready to testify against others, the magistrate decided to fine him €1,164 and place him under probation for three years.
