I wish to sincerely thank Bro. Ġwann Xerri for the way he spoke about immigration in the interview with The Sunday Times (May 3).

It is a shame how both the government and opposition both felt morally right to refuse the suffering immigrants rescued in a boat off Lampedusa entry into Malta on grounds that Malta was legally right.

I feel we should all make a conscious effort to stop fearing and stop spreading bad publicity about immigrants, which may cause others to see them in a bad light and mistreat them.

Instead, let us spread understanding, empathy and a sense of sharing with our unfortunate and suffering brothers.
