The Malta Career Guidance Association's first annual general meeting will be held on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Gateway Building, University of Malta.
In a rapidly changing and competitive workplace, employees face new scenarios that demand complex decisions. Students are inundated with a greater diversity of educational and training opportunities and in order to make the best choices, they need access to high quality, impartial information, advice and guidance about learning opportunities and work prospects.
The area of career guidance and lifelong learning has been identified as a priority area by the Council of the European Union (2001). To strengthen and support this priority area, a group of career guidance practitioners working in the field of education and employment have embarked on the setting up of an association for career guidance practitioners.
The association aims to promote the delivery of high quality career guidance services, set up ethical standards, stimulate discussion and debate on issues concerning educational and career guidance; encourage research and act as a pressure group to inform society of the need to eliminate educational and occupational injustice.
Manwel Debono, from the Centre for Labour Studies, will be the keynote speaker. A nominal membership fee of €10 can be sent by cheque or can be paid at the venue on the day. More information can be obtained from www.mcga.org.mt.
