The doctors have a right to know
MEP candidate Marlene Mizzi made a lot of fuss in her Shut Up, You're Too Small (April 23) about a semi-satirical article which appeared in a PN paper.
Now this is a candidate representing a political party whose leader Joseph Muscat is on record to have given this comment to the New York Times on March 3, 2003 after the people of Malta democratically chose membership of the EU as against Labour's Partnership proposal in a referendum: "In a telephone interview, Mr Muscat also said that the structure of European Union government meant that a country like Malta doesn't have any type of voice'" ( www.nytimes.com/2003/03/10/world/malta-voters-narrowly-approve-joining-european-union.html ).
Maybe next time she puts pen to paper, Ms Mizzi will tell us how things have changed since 2003.
And while at it, she may care to tell us also whether she voted against membership of the EU in the referendum, whether she subscribed to Labour official policy that Partnership had won or whether she too, like Dr Muscat, had a change of mind, albeit five years after these events occurred. The voters have a right to know.

Since 2003 we have seen the largest foreign investments in this country. Smart City. Lufthansa Technik. A hugely successful MCAST and pharmaceutical industry. Increase in the staying rate of students in tertiary education. Roads built to the highest standards. Millions of euros used by the ETC to train?retrain workers. New wastage disposal plants. Students and workers getting experiences abroad. The financial services established themselves as some of the best in the world. Air Malta has expanded to be able to fly from and to all EU airports...and there's much more.
Very little of this would have been possible without EU membership. Some people argue that I as a voter don't have the right to know who of the the MEP candidates would have deprived us of all this. I respect your views but any candidate standing for an election to the EP should come clean about his/her past re EU membership.
The electorate should remember that the PL must have been incapable of having a vision re the EU. Joseph Muscat was the frontman who projected that lack of vision which is still alive in the PL as witnessed by the statements being made repeatedly by Alfred Sant.

Why don't YOU tell us what changed since 2003!!...
and what right do you have to ask Marlene Mizzi or anyone else how they voted. You are the typically arrogant nationalist who think that being in government is a divine right and look down on anyone with a differnt opinion .
I do not know how MarleneMizzi voted but why dont you ask your darling Gonzi about change of mind. He will tell you that he changed his mind about lowering taxes, about controlling govtm expenses, about lowering water and electricity bills if the price of oil goes down below 85 dollars, about givine us 5 free light bulbs - promises all made beFORE the election and forgotten right after it. It took Gonzi 3 months and not 5 years to change his mind..
I repeat over and over again: MAHRUQIN GHAX MA HARGITX MAGHKOM...U NAF X'JIEN NIGHD
Salv, why dont you do one thing decent - VOTE LABOUR

Mr Felice Pace, I'm trying to work out the reason for your letter.
Is it that because you are trying to belittle those of a different political persuation than youself?
If that is the case you are failing miserably.
You seem to have taken offence at Marlene Mizzi's article, most probably because it is so near the truth.
Your letter is rather patronising, especially when you say that this is a candidate representing a political party, whose leader is on record as giving this same comment to the NY Times, (over six years ago)...... to quote "Malta doesn't really have any type of voice", .............But so what? ..........Recent events have shown this is turning out to be true.
Who cares how people voted six years ago, everyone can change their mind before and after the event........ Why do you want to know how Marlene Mizzi voted? I'm sure that it won"t make any difference on how you will vote.
Personally, I thought that joining the EU was the right choice at the time, now I'm having second thoughts.
Perhaps you sir, can put pen to paper and tell us how things have changed since we became members.

Mr Salvu Felice Pace, why don't you go knocking on doors and ask people how they voted. We have right to know to confirm that the P.N. had a valid majority of 1500 of truly eligible voters or not.
On the other hand, a short comment. You want to know how Mrs. Marlene Mizzi voted most probably because you are not yet decided whether to vote for her or not.! Don't you have the guts to decide for yourself?

I have voted for the EU, but some of my friends have not. It was within my European democratic right to vote how I want. I know people who voted Yes and now regret it. I know others who voted No and now regret it too. This is all about change. Change is a very important component of every European citizenship. People change jobs careers and sometimes, monks, nuns and priests change their vocation. Do we have to delve into the reasons of what and how people voted? Things have changed and, to the regret of some, there is no inquisitor about!
