In his article Warding Off The Wardens (April 21), Austin Sammut writes that he is bothered when "uneducated" wardens dip into "their little bag of tricks" and or "have some good fun" pouncing on motorists who go the wrong way on one-way streets or talk on a mobile phone while driving and book cars with flashing hazard lights while the driver runs "a quick errand". For such offences and many more he would rather see better-trained wardens take preventative measures rather than impose sanctions.
Does he really feel traffic laws are only a suggestion to be broken when it suits one's convenience?
No sir. Educated or not, the wardens are doing their job. In fact, there is a lack of enforcement and it would serve everyone much better if the wardens (and the police) worked more diligently and aggressively to book the inconsiderate and selfish motorists who do not give a second thought to blocking even main arteries and causing traffic jams for considerable distances while they run a quick errand.
Dr Sammut would appear to support the "me first and to heck with everyone else" attitude that seems so prevalent on this island.
Go get them wardens... and more often!
