The Olympic Day is celebrated every year around the world in June and is unlike any other holiday or national day.

It belongs to no country and honours no individual. It is simply a day to celebrate the dream of uniting in peace and competing in friendship and is the only annual global event of the Olympic Movement.

This year's Olympic Day will be celebrated under the theme Move, Learn and Discover.

As part of the celebrations a number of fun runs are also being organised by the Maltese Olympic Committee in conjunction with Athletics Malta and McDonald's.

These will take place on June 21, starting from near the Buġibba McDonald's outlet in Islet Promenade. The running distances will be 2.5K, 5K and 10K. Participation is free of charge.

Special mementoes will be awarded to those groups with the largest number of runners.

Applications will be available from any McDonald's outlet and through the offices of the MOC (tel. 21-332801, www.nocmalta.org).
