The Labour leader organised a Sunday morning meeting in Marsa and one would have expected Joseph Muscat to speak at some length about the European Socialists' vote to give immigrants the right to vote and the Maltese government's standoff with Italy on the Pinar issue. However, he gave short shrift to the immigration issue he had declared would be his main plank for the European elections.

The Socialists' decision to give the vote to immigrants seems to have derailed Dr Muscat's riding on the xenophobic bandwagon.
