Updated: Voters not in register can appeal - Electoral Commission

Voters whose name does not appear in the electoral register published this month but who were listed in the previous one should appeal for a revision to be able to vote, the Electoral Commission said this afternoon.
The appeal should be lodged with the revising official at the Electoral Office in Evans Buildings, Valletta by May 8, during office hours, it said.
The statement was issued shortly after the Representation of the European Commission in Malta and the European Parliament Office published a letter they had sent to the Commission asking it to facilitate procedures for the reinstatement of non-Maltese EU residents who had previously been in the register but were struck off (See separate story).
In another statement, the Labour Party said it was offering those whose name had been struck off the register its services.
The party would be launching an application in court on their behalf for their name to be reinstated in the register. The party sadi it was also offering its services to non-Maltese EU residents who had been struck off.
All people who had the right to vote should be given that right, the PL said.

I am non Maltese EU resident on Malta for several years now. In fact I was even listed in the previous electoral register and I voted last time.
Should I have been removed from the register I will not go into the hassle to go to Valletta to appeal. I have really more important things to do. But what I will do is to lodge a complain in Brussels AFTER the election. If enough people do that maybe the Malta Election gets nulled and has to be repeated. It seems thats the only way that the local authorities learn the rules.
As a side node. If I have been removed from the register I feel that I should not pay taxes anymore in Malta as well! At the end of the day our taxes end up anyway in the hands of the 6 suspended VAT employees (does the commission know about the VAT scam? I think I should inform them as well)

The process of "re-registration" is in breach of E.U. regulation 93/109/EG Paragraph 9.4 which states: "Community voters who have been entered on the electoral roll shall remain
thereon, under the same conditions as voters who are nationals, until such time as they
request to be removed or until such time as they are removed automatically because they
no longer satisfy the requirements for exercising the right to vote. " All person having been on the previous electoral register should remain on the actual by default.
