The St John's Co-Cathedral Foundation has purchased three silver sacred vases to contain Holy Oil used once a year during Mass on the Holy Thursday solemn celebration at the Co-Cathedral.
The artistically handmade vases, which are in the shape of amphorae, were manufactured by Fratelli Savi in Rome and cost €14,000. They are 46cm each in height. Each amphora is decorated with olive branches on the shoulder and bears the Cross of the Order of St John on the lid.
The emblems of The Foundation and the Cathedral Chapter are seen at the top of each amphora. The amphorae are used to carry Holy Oil for the sacraments of the Holy Chrism (Chrisma), the Sick (Infirmorum) and the Cathacumen (Cathecumenorum) in the different parishes in Malta.
