Nationalist Party unveils EP election slogan
Employment is the main theme running through the Nationalist Party's choice of slogan for the forthcoming European Parliament elections - Flimkien - Inġibu Iżjed Xogħol Għalik (Together, we will generate more work for you).
Flanked by the PN's 10 candidates, Prime Minister and party leader Lawrence Gonzi said yesterday that on June 6 the electorate had to make a choice that would have serious consequences for the country. He invited people to compare the track record of the Nationalist MEPs and those elected on the Labour Party ticket.
The slogan chosen underscored the government's priority of generating jobs and attracting investment to the country.
Like the slogan used for the March 2008 general election, this also includes the word Flimkien (Together).
Dr Gonzi said the world economic scenario had changed radically in a year and so had the challenges the country was facing. He said that, thanks to decisions taken in the past, the country was well placed to face such challenges and exploit opportunities that would enable Malta to emerge stronger.
Other challenges that Malta faced were in relation to the environment, energy, competitiveness and education. People and social partners should remain united to make the best of the opportunities that existed. They also had a responsibility to ensure they made the best use of €1.2 billion in EU funds coming Malta's way.
The government had already generated thousands of jobs, he said, but job creation would remain the main emphasis, along with making Malta an attractive investment destination.
During the launch, Nationalist MEP Simon Busuttil spoke on the work carried out by the Nationalist MEPs and drew contrasts with the position of the Labour MEPs and the socialist group.

Pray tell us what cunning strategy have they concocted to generate more work for us? I half suspect that the more intelligent candidates amongst them probably cringe inwardly at being associated with such an asinine slogan. I suppose it has the merit of being no more vacuous and puerile than other political slogans although being no worse is hardly a commendation.

I'm very sorry to hear that all you can say is to criticize the current government because you believe in PL credibility or just for a protest vote. With pn at the helm of the government we had an impressive increase in the employment field in Malta together with promising and more effective companies other then manufacturing opening in Malta. This can surely contrasted with the level of unemployment which was sky high while there was the MLP government back in 1997.
Illegal Immigration was always in the government's agenda and also note the various reports and amendments brought up by Simon Busuttil in the European Parliament is an indication of who is voicing our concerns in EU.
This is not the time to claim a protest vote. You need to take into consideration the importance of having the right people in the EU Parliament. We need a voice in Europe to bring our needs first in the agenda.

“Employment is the main theme running through the Nationalist Party's … slogan for the forthcoming European Parliament elections …The slogan … underscored the government's priority of generating jobs and attracting investment … Other challenges that Malta faced were … the environment, energy, competitiveness and education…”
Dr Gonzi mentioned 5 ‘challenges’ - all serious. But he did not mention illegal immigration among them. To me this means Dr Gonzi is not seriously interested in tackling the illegal immigration crisis. His agenda is not much different from that of the do-gooder NGOs.
Can Dr Gonzi tell us how many illegal immigrants he is prepared to take on behalf of Malta? Why is he continuing with his policy of the last 5 years of trying to sweep the problem of illegal immigrants under the carpet?
In the meantime, at the time of writing The Times online poll (admittedly not scientific) shows that 56.1% of respondents consider immigration the main issue of the European Parliament electoral campaign, followed by 24.8% considering the main issue as the economy. Dr Gonzi, are you with us?

@ A. Grech. I am sorry ALAN DEIDUN will be representing the PN. No PN candidate will get my vote unless two vehicles donated to the St. Francis Foundation for Animals - SFFA -are handed over to them to be used as animal ambulances to rush sick, injured and abandoned animals to veterinarians. It cost the PN government nothing to waive off dues - registration tax etc. These vehicles have been donated by foreigners to be used for a very good cause in 2004 and 2007 respectively. This insensitive PN government have failed to deliver the promises made to SFFA just a few days before the 2008 general elections.
The proof of the pudding is in the eating. For further information vide the following links and online comments:-

'Together, we will generate more work for you', It's quiet a far cry from the 'Money no problem' slogan but I can appreciate the government is now admitting it has been loosing a good bunch of jobs under it's administration.

This will be my first time ever voting. And I will vote labour and Kirill. Deidun does not inspire me at all. Profs Scicluna I enjoy listening to. But Kirill I find is a born politician with a natural flaire about him. Besides, I can not, for all that's sensible, see myself voting nationalist. I blame the whole nationalist party and nationalist govvernments for the rotten situation in every aspect of life we're in. Kirill will get my number 1. Then I will go on voting for the labour candidates. And may labour get all 5 seats, and if there will be a 6th, may labour get that also.

Speaking objectively...
Do these people ever get shy ? Or is arrogance somehow the only word in their vocabulary? I really wish I can believe them yet again. However, after trusting them with my vote 5 yrs ago and last March I have been let down. Not once, not twice, but ample of times.
Simon spoke on the PN MEP's work and contrasted with the PL MEP's ? How dare he ! He was only trusted to make a report in the recent months.! When PL's Louis Grech was trusted with the Budget !!!
It is time for fresh blood. People who I hope wont let us down. I believe that Edward Demicoli and Alan Deidun have the best credentials possible, just like Dr. Kirill Micallef Stafrace; who will deliver the best for Malta!

The time is right for fresh blood to enter the European political dungeon. Candidates Dr. Kirill Micallef Stafrace and Dr. Deidun make for transparent, genuine representation.
