(Adds GhUM's resolution)

The Ministry of Education said today that it had requested a conciliation meeting with the Malta Union of Teachers and was committed to seeking a solution to problems with the union.

The ministry was referring to the teachers’ strike in government schools, which is to take place tomorrow.

The ministry urged parents to follow the news in order to be informed of developments regarding state schools.

Education Minister Dolores Cristina had an informal meeting with the MUT leadership on Monday but the stalemate between the two sides was not broken.

In a resolution, the Ghaqda Unions Maltin expressed its solidarity with MUT and hoped the strike would be a success.

It appealed to the government to find a solution and reach an agreement with the union. The GhUM condemned those who were trying to strangle unions' legitimate rights with their actions and told other unions which were not yet members of the GhUM that they were still welcome.
