For those who never heard of Susan Boyle, let me speak about her.

She's a 47-year-old, never been married, never been kissed (by her own admission) and, well, by society's standards not a person you would look twice at. She decided to go to a show called Britain's Got Talent.

When she appeared on stage she was made fun of, almost ridiculed by all and sundry. She said her dream was to be recognised as a singer and when asked to whose level she cited Elaine Paige, much to the disbelief of the audience.

How dare a woman so frumpy and ordinary expect so much! The audience was determined that, once she opened her mouth, they were going to whistle and boo her off the stage. The song she chose was I Dreamed A Dream from Les Miserables, no less!

Then it was time to sing and when she hit the first note, oh the reaction of the crowd was completely the opposite to that just seconds before!

The moral here for me is no matter how many people are saying you cannot make it, if you're being bullied and being told that you are useless, worthless, that the world would be better off without you, do not listen. Be it the Church, the state or family there is only one important person that can make or break you: Yourself!
