A humane industrialist

I remember Barth Attard as far back as the mid-1960s when he used to come for lunch at the then Villa Corinthia Restaurant (pre-Corinthia Palace Hotel). He was that special customer whom all the staff looked forward to serve again and again as he was one of those people who always wore a smile and had a joke to share.

I also had the opportunity to meet him again on a number of occasions some years later and he was still the same unpretentious person.

Throughout all those years I always remembered him as someone who earned the respect of all and did not allow life's riches and accessories to go above the fact that he was a decent human being first and foremost. I am sure he will be long remembered as one of those few "human faces" of a self-made and leading industrialist on the island.

May he rest in peace as a gentleman like him certainly deserves.
