Born on 16 November 1968 in Valletta, David Casa was elected Member of the European Parliament (MEP) in June 2004. Prior to that he was one of the founding members and subsequently secretary general of the Moviment Iva, an organisation which played a fundamental role in the campaigning for Malta's accession to the European Union in the run-up to the referendum on the subject.

Mr Casa was secretary of the Malta-EU Steering and Action Committee (MEUSAC) and subsequently served as advisor and personal assistant to Prof Guido de Marco during his tenure as Minister of Foreign Affairs and deputy Prime Minister. This role also ensured that Mr Casa followed the process of membership closely since its inception.

Over the past five years, David Casa has served as an MEP and has taken on the responsibility of rapporteur on two highly sensitive reports, namely The European Fisheries Fund and the Report on Slovakia's entry into the Euro Zone. He was also appointed EPP-Ed spokesperson on several other subjects, most notably the report on the European Social Agenda and more particularly on the European Globalisation Fund.
