Dynamic programming

Jaroslav Sklenar from the Department of Statistics and Operations Research will give a talk on dynamic programming to the Malta Mathematical Society, on Tuesday in Room 216 at the Maths and Physics Building.

His talk will discuss the basic ideas of dynamic programming applications, including the famous egg dropping problem. People attending need not have any particular mathematical background.

Market research methodology

Liberato Camilleri, from the Department of Statistics and Operations Research, will deliver a seminar on the use of latent class mixture models for analysing rating responses on Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Computer Lab 606.

Latent class methodology has been used extensively in market research.

17th century French literature

Madeleine Bertaud willl give two lectures on campus on 17th century French literature entitled Lire les classiques.

The first lecture will be held tomorrow at 5.30 p.m. in MP 401 and the second on Thursday at 4 p.m. in LC 216.

Prof. Bertaud will also give a lecture entitled Un académcien francais venu de l'Orient de tout: François Cheng on Wednesday at 6.30 p.m. at the Alliance Francaise de Malte - Méditerranée, 108, St Thomas Street, Floriana.

Early Maltese, Australian music

Richard Divall, AO, OBE, associate professor of music at the University of Melbourne, Australia, will deliver a public lecture entitled 'The Early Music of Malta and Australia: A Critical Appreciation' on May 7 at 7 p.m. at the Aula Magna, Old University, St Paul Street, Valletta, organised by the University's Mediterranean Institute.

As a musicologist, Prof. Divall has edited many works by Maltese composers including major works by Nicolò Isouard, Michelangelo Vella and Francesco Azzopardi. His editions of Maltese music have been published by Lyrebird Press, one of the principal publishing houses of historical editions of music works. His editions of Maltese music were also played by the Maltese National Philharmonic Orchestra.
