Over €600,000 is to be invested in the University of Malta's Chemistry and Biology departments to buy state-of-the-art laboratory equipment and furniture for the departments, and high quality office furniture for its offices and lecture rooms.

The project is being financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the Cohesion Policy Programme 2007-2013 and will spread over most of this year.

The departments offer both first degrees and post-graduate degrees needed for firms involved in indistries such as the pharmaceutical manufacturing, chemicals and marine biology.

The project will strengthen its ability to offer more specialised courses such as applied biology and chemistry, biotechnology, conservation biology, synthetic organic chemistry and chemistry with materials science.
