The Karl Chircop Memorial Grove was inaugurated at Santa Lucija today in honour of the popular Labour MP who died last October, aged 43.

The grove is a joint initiative of the Malta Institute for Medical Education (MIME) and Santa Lucija Local Council.

The large crowd present included Dr Chircop's widow Adriana and their children, the Speaker, Louis Galea, Opposition Leader Joseph Muscat, Resources Minister George Pullicino, Parliamentary Secretary Jason Azzopardi and the Mayor of Sta Lucija, Frederick Cutajar.

Mrs Chircop unveiled a commemorative plaque.

Dr Chircop passed away in a London hospital after suffering a brain hemorrhage in August.
