Jay Leno checked into a Los Angeles hospital yesterday with an undisclosed illness, forcing the comedian to cancel a taping of "The Tonight Show" for the first time in his 17-year tenure. Leno's representatives did not say what he was treated for at the hospital, but he is expected to return to work on Monday.

Elton John, McCartney hit by economic crisis

British singers Paul McCartney, Elton John and Mick Jagger have lost large chunks of their personal fortunes during the economic crisis over the last year, according to a rich list published today. Along with many of the world's richest people, their wealth has been eroded by sharp falls in the value of property, shares and other investments, the annual survey for the Sunday Times newspaper said.

"Battle of the Bulge" director Annakin dies at 94

British-born film director Ken Annakin, the man behind war film "The Battle of the Bulge" and "Swiss Family Robinson," has died at his Beverly Hills home at the age of 94, his family said. Annakin, who was born in Yorkshire, England, made over 60 movies, ranging from comedies and adventure to documentaries, his daughter Deborah Peters said.

Beyonce says "definitely" wants Broadway role

Grammy Award winning singer and actress Beyonce Knowles has a plan to settle down in a couple of years and have some children with her husband, hip hop mogul Jay-Z, do less touring and -- debut on Broadway. "It's my ideal job," Knowles told Reuters, while promoting her latest film role in "Obsessed," in which she plays a wife who takes on her husband's stalker.

Woody Allen returns to NY to open Tribeca festival

Director Woody Allen marked a return to filmmaking in New York by premiering his latest film at the Tribeca Film Festival and saying he usually can't afford to make films in his beloved city anymore. Allen, who has spent the past four years making movies in Europe including last year's critically acclaimed "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," opened the festival on Wednesday night with his romantic comedy, "Whatever Works," which stars Larry David and Evan Rachel Wood.

Tarantino back in Cannes with Almodovar, Campion

Quentin Tarantino returns to Cannes as part of a group of familiar faces at the world's biggest film festival that includes Pedro Almodovar, Ken Loach and New Zealand's Jane Campion. Tarantino presents his long-awaited World War Two caper "Inglourious Basterds" starring Brad Pitt in the 20-strong main competition line-up announced by festival director Thierry Fremaux yesterday.
