Maltese iPhone 3G and iPod Touch users can now log on to a version of the Apple iTunes store to download applications for their devices. This Malta-branded store offers more than 25,000 software applications from games to social networking to productivity applications from "Fast & Furious" the Game to Facebook to BBC News TV Channel streaming. However music and video content is not yet available for purchase
Users can access this store from iTunes by simply clicking under the iTunes store menu and selecting the Republic of Malta as the country. This would give them access to both free and paid applications.
Some of the applications available for purchase include Ocarina, iBeer, Monopoly, Flick Fishing, World Atlas and Fact Book, and PocketGuitar. The free applications include Ferrari GT Evolution: Lite Version, Pac Man, and Facebook, iHandy, iSniper Lite, Skype, Free Translator and Quick Voice Recorder w/Free Voicemail.
For anyone who wants to update the social networking wall in real time there's no better tool then the Facebook, MySpace or Twitter iPhone Apps. One can snap a photo, write an update and view e-mail directly from the iPhone 3G and post in real time.
Business users who want to keep updated with what's going on with their business partners via Linkedin then there's an app for that.
The iPhone can keep track of a workout, speed, distance and can even upload it onto a computer showing the track taken during the jog on applications such as Google Earth. One of these applications is the Runkeeper.
Speaking of Google Earth, the iPhone app has even more functionality then that on a conventional computer since it integrates with GPS and shows anything uploaded by Google users and relevant to your surroundings.
One should not forget the build in applications such as the e-mail service which gives real time access to e-mails. E-mails flow directly to your iPhone 3G in real time. The e-mail experience on the iPhone 3G is similar to that of SMS, as soon as an e-mail is sent, an iPhone recipient receives it. The iPhone 3G guarantees this fast access to e-mail, calendar and contacts.
"Anyone can try out the latest apps and the iPhone 3G at any of the Vodafone outlets and Vodafone iPhone exclusive sealers," announced Robert Cassar, terminals senior executive at Vodafone Malta, the exclusive Maltese carrier for iPhone 3G.
iCentre, Apple's authorised service provider in Malta, said: "While we all would have liked having the iTunes store completely available to Malta, we cannot comment on future expansion plans of the iTunes Store, but please rest assured that Apple are committed to bringing this to people around the world".
