Leading entrepreneur passes away
Leading entrepreneur Barth Attard, founder of the Panta Lesco Group, has died aged 82.
He set up Panta Lesco Ltd, a mechanical and electrical engineering firm, in 1961 and within 10 years it was already involved in major overseas infrastructural projects, notably in Saudi Arabia, Libya, Kuwait and Dubai.
Over the years Panta Lesco grew to become a group of nine companies including engineering, IT, telecommunications, desalination equipment, solar heating and building-industry related products.
Mr Attard headed Panta Lesco as group chairman and was a board member of the Malta Development Corporation between 1982 and 1987.
His funeral will be held on Saturday at 8 a.m. at Msida Parish Church.

My sincere condolences to Marion, Henry and Albert, and their children on the passing of a wonderful man.
I was such a pleasure doing business with 'gentleman' Barth, as well as spending time as a friend at his house, on his boat, and in his garden with very memorable times.
I haven't seen him for 10 years, but I can still bring his voice and wonderful laugh into my mind.

I remember Mr Barth as far back as the mid-sixties when he use to come in for Lunch at then Villa Corinthia Restaurant (pre-Corinthia Palace Hotel). He was that special customer that all the staff looked forward to serve again and again as he was one those people who always had a smile and a joke to share. I also had the opportunity to meet him again on a number of occasions some years later and he was still the same unpretentious person.
He stuck in my mind for all those years as someone who earned the respect of all, and did not allow life's riches and accessories to go above the fact that he was a decent human being first and foremost.
I am sure that he will be long remembered as one of those few "human faces" of a self made and leading industrialist on the Island.
May he rest in peace as gentleman like him certainly deserves it!

Apart from being a distant relative to my wife's family, I new Bertui from my Union days as Secretary of the Construction & Woodworks Section of the GWU. Contrary to other Employers at the time who were prepared to use all possible avenues to keep their members from joining a Trade Union, Bertu had given my section full recognition upon receiving the Unions letter. It took us only a few weeks to conclude a Collective Agreem, ent for the benefit of the workers and the company. I had at the time considered Bertu as a Big Man not only literally but more so metaphorically.
Whilst giving my condolences to all his family, especially Henry who used to be at the side of his father at the time, I pray God to grant him eternal peace.

I had the immense privilege of knowing Is-Sur Bart for close to twenty years andall I can say is that he was a true gentleman and yes the only thing I would never dream of leaving out of my sight while in he was around was a lighter or a box of matches. It brings a smile to my face remembering him and Perit Carm Lino Spiteri (Cumpaqq) at Panta House arguing over some petty situation like little kids at primary.
May Malta produce more entrepreneurs like is-Sur Bart.
To his sons and daughter my heartfelt condolences.
The good this GENTLEMAN has done to many a family will never be forgotten.
