The council is correct in informing Louise Bruno that on the coast road "the speed limit has been reduced and that there are signs there to alert drivers" (April 20).
However, ever since the installation of this particular speed camera, the speed limit in this stretch of road leading to St Andrew's has always been 70 kph. There are numerous signs to warn motorists of a speed camera in operation controlling a speed limit of 70... true, very true!
But coming up the road, just before Splash and Fun, a new, obscure sign showing a limit of 40 has sprung up. Lo and behold, just a few metres past this solitary sign, another sign showing a limit of 36 has sprouted.
This is how the local council or the ADT or the wardens company, or whoever, is sure of having a "captive audience" or better still, a sure way of making money from unsuspecting drivers.
The "responsible" body or department should make the new speed limits more visible and give us unsuspecting motorists reasonable warnings about the change, so that this unfair trap will be eliminated.
