I would like to express my sincere thanks to all Gozitan and Maltese people that have been instrumental in keeping the spring hunting season closed this year.
We have witnessed with glee sight of the hoopoe wading, honey buzzards, swallows, all of which would probably not have "made it" had the hunting season been open.
I understand that "the hunters" feel that their traditions are to be followed but in this time of financial and economic hardship the island is reaping a grand reward of seeing these fascinating birds fly free, as it is encouraging more tourism.
If you care about evolution it is imperative that this hunting ban remains. Also, the security of the Maltese and Gozitans' future in tourism lies in the balance should protestors continue to break the law. This is sent from the heart; the joy of what has been achieved in the one-year ban has been amazing. I cannot wait for my next trip to witness more unusual migrating species of birds - please do not let me down on this one folks.
Best wishes to all Gozitans and Maltese.
We are tourists and we expect to fly home after our holidays. Do let the migrating birds do the same.
