Puttinu needs €470,000 for cancer patients' apartments

The Puttinu Children’s Cancer Support Group will hold a football marathon at the Marsa Sports Grounds this weekend to raise funds to pay for apartments used by young Maltese cancer patients in London.

The marathon will kick off at 10 a.m. on Friday and continue till 10 p.m. on Sunday.

The group has bought three apartments in Sutton for €1.2 million and needs to raise €470,000 in order to settle the bill.

The apartments are for use by the patients and families of children who require hospital treatment in London.

The group said that it had also rented another three apartments in Sutton for use by adults who also need treatment at the Royal Marsden cancer hospital. It hoped that another group would be set up to help these people. Alternatively, it would try to buy more apartments itself.

The group said 700 teams will participate in this weekend’s marathon.

The fund raising activities will also include an Open Day at Tal-Qroqq sports complex organised by the Malta Sports Council.

The theme of the activities is: Treating each patient with dignity.
