NIGERIAN JAILED

In a separate case, another man, Thomas Solomons, 25,who is Nigerian, was jailed for six months after he admitted trying to leave the island for Spain using a passport and a Spanish residence permit which were not his.

Mr Solomons, on hearing that he was to be jailed for six months, burst into tears and pleaded with the magistrate not to jail him since he has a severely injured leg. He instead asked the magistrate to place him at the detention camp at Lyster barracks.

Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona told the man that for his own good, he was going to place him in prison so that, at least, he would be able to receive the medical attention he needed.
