Nationalist MEP David Casa formally launched his re-election campaign today, promising continuity and a commitment to solidarity.

"The European Union’s strongest asset is its relatively stable economy, yet it can only stand out if it truly stands by the citizens it represents," he told a press conference.

He pledging to focus on the social issues that affect everyday life if elected for a second term.

Mr Casa said his work in the European Peoples’ Party was based on the concept of ensuring that no one was left behind. Indeed, this is the main ingredient behind all decisions taken by the EPP.

He stressed on the importance of the European Social Agenda, particularly the European Globalisation Fund, of which he is the EPP’s chief negotiator. Through this Fund, €1billion are to be distributed to those affected by redundancies due to the prevailing economic climate.

Nationalist Party General Secretary Paul Borg Olivier emphasized the importance of voting for candidates who had shown consistency with regards the European Union. He said that Mr Casa represented continuity with regards to Malta’s success in Europe in the past five years.
