I knew Peppinu (a relative of mine) before he graduated as a doctor of medicine and surgery and followed him since, up to his death bed.
The passing away of Mr Attard brought some sadness to many of his friends and not least his numerous patients.
He was humble in his personal life and in his profession. His special caring and charismatic approach were two of his characteristic values. His persuasive words were half cure and peace of mind to many.
I was always amazed with his dedication and interest towards his patients when on his own he would personally travel to visit them in any corner of every town or village in Malta, to check their well-being after his medical intervention.
The love to his wife (who passed away two years ago) and his three children were enough proof of his family values ingrained in his profound religious belief.
I particularly always admired his close and supporting nursing staff, namely Joyce Bullock, Lily Borg and Lucia Pillow, and others who were highly vocationally motivated in their duties with exceptional dedication to their master's profession. Mr Attard was more than proud with their service.
The only conclusion to this appreciation is nothing less than the words written on the holy picture distributed at the end of his funeral Mass to his unfading memory: "So rest in peace dear loved one and thanks for all you have done with thy patients.
"We pray that, as you extended temporary the life of others, God will give you a new everlasting life in his company."
