Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi has declared that student stipends will be retained and will not be reduced, PBS has said.

Quoting comments made in a recorded interview due to be broadcast on Radio Malta this morning, the state broadcaster said Dr Gonzi said he viewed stipends as an investment for more young people to follow post-secondary courses.

Some 14,400 students are receiving stipends this year, at a cost of €21 million.
