Vatican deplores censure of Pope on condoms
The Vatican today deplored a resolution by Belgium's parliament condemning Pope Benedict for saying that the use of condoms could worsen the spread of AIDS.
The Vatican, in a statement, said it was inappropriate to criticise the Pope and said the episode had been used "by some groups" in an attempt to "intimidate" the pontiff from expressing Church teachings.
The Vatican statement said criticism of the Pope's comments, made on the plane taking him to Africa last month, were based on "an isolated extract" and taken out of context.

When we speak about the church one must also remember the church position against vaccinations in the early years of last century. This resulted in thousands of deaths from diseases that could have been easily avoided. Is the church repeating the same mistake ? Who knows.. time will tell.
My argument holds and how. Stating that the use of condoms increases the chance of HIV transmission (as the Pope says) is pure nonsense, with all due respect.
Anyone of you ever been to Africa ? Even been to a police station in Africa ? Ever seen a banner in the police office stating that the use of condoms is a criminal act ? Is this the way we're going to eradicate HIV in Africa ?
I see the condom as just an additional tool in the fight against HIV in Africa. Why ban its use ? I simply don't understand.

@ Mr. Robert Mifsud
Saving a life is not being cool but an obligation. I'm not going to take a side who's right or wrong, as all I care is that people can live longer and reduce the risk of HIV.
If you want to be cool, stay at home. Surf other sites which wouldn't harm other people with your comments.

At the root of all this condom apologetics is the condom industry = US $. As for safety means, I refer you to this statistical study made in the US on 25,184 users, spread out on 15 different samples. The failure rate was found out to be 9.13%. (http://www.hli.org/condom_facts_chart.html ) Who will now be the wise guy that would dare advice his daughter that she can be promiscuous and go to bed with every Tom, Dick & Harry because the condom in her pocket is a security?!

With all due respect, your argument does not hold water. The two issues cannot be compared. Medically treating HIV patients is a duty we are called to carry out from time to time as medical professionals and is a situation which completely differs from the issue being discussed. Yes, why should'nt I protect myself? And in so doing, we are not letting these patients down. Nevertheless, we all are entitled to our opinion, and I thought freedom of speech is a basic human right. Ths is my opinion, and I respect the view of others too. Unlike certain European politicians.................................

The things happening around us and around the world show us clearly into what dark and gloomy times we are heading. Why is it that we have to go against the Churches teachings to be cool ? Who are we to think we can take Gods place ? I am positive many ^cool^ people are going to send a reply to my contribution.(Ahfrilhom, ghax ma jafux x^inhuma jaghmlu)

Dr. Sandro Vella: would you rather operate on an HIV patient with bare hands or wearing gloves ? Food for thought :) Cheers mate.

Today's issue of the British Medical Journal yields support for His Holiness views. http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/338/apr14_2/b1498 Food for thought.
