Socialists should remember that their main task was to defend the workers, the self-employed, the middle class, students and pensioners, Labour leader Joseph Muscat said.

Opening the European Congress of Socialist Youths (Ecosy) in Brussels, Dr Muscat spoke on the need for people to have the job they deserved for which they received a fair pay.

He encouraged the young activists to retain continuous contact with the people and listen and understand what they were feeling. It was only in this way that they could ensure that their work in the European Parliament made a difference to middle class workers, the self-employed, students and pensioners.
