Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna is holding a special weekend at the Malta at War Museum in Vittoriosa this weekend to commemorate the 67th anniversary of the George Cross award by King George VI to Malta and her people on April 15, 1942.

Malta is the only nation state which has ever received this British coveted honour. This event will run between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Visitors will be offered a free copy of the wartime movie – ‘Malta GC’ on this occasion.

The Malta at War Museum is located at Couvre Porte (Advanced Gate), Vittoriosa. This popular museum focuses on the daily life of the Maltese & their defenders during WWII. It comprises a thematic display on the subject made from mainly rare and unique period memorabilia; the viewing of the wartime documentary ‘Malta G.C.’ and a guided tour in the vast underground air raid shelters that have recently been cleaned, reconstructed and opened to the public.

This Sunday’s event will consist of guided tours of the underground wartime shelters, a re-enactment and day-long viewing of the Malta G.C. documentary film. Guided tours in Maltese and English and film shows will run on the half hour. The re-enactment will take place at 11a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Throughout the day, the wartime documentary film ‘Malta G.C.’ will be shown.

A special licence for viewing this film in Malta has been obtained by FWA from the Imperial War Museum of London where the original is kept. To avoid piracy this film is only shown at the Malta at War Museum, Vittoriosa and DVD copies can only be obtained from FWA heritage sites at each or by email info@wirtartna.org.

To mark this year’s George Cross anniversary , FWA will be offering a free copy of this movie with every family entrance or two paying adults.

The Malta at War Museum is run by FWA with the support of the Malta Tourism Authority and the Vittoriosa council.
