Jonathan Coleiro, 24 of Cospicua, this afternoon pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder of Charles Zammit during a hold-up at a mobile phones shop in Birkirkara.

He is alleged to have fired five shots at him and had tried to fire another but the pistol did not fire. Mr Zammit suffered injuries to one of his hands.

Mr Coleiro was also accused of holding Mr Zammit against his will.

Meanwhile, police sources said a second man is being questioned in connection with the case. He is suspected of having driven the getaway car.
