The second edition of the Digital Arts Expo, which this year will be held in November, is to be on a larger scale than last July's, event organiser Jon Mallia told The Times Business.
The event, being held between November 19 and 21, will also incorporate the first Digital Arts Awards recognising creativity in eight categories, including advertising, graphic design and illustration, printing and signage, audio-visual, photography, and web development. The best student will be named and a Grand Prix award for 'Best in Show' will be presented. A panel of overseas experts will examine entries.
The expo will occupy 1,800 square metres at the Bay Arena in St George's Bay, St Julians - 800 square metres will be occupied by exhibitor stands. There will be dedicated zones: an extensive conference zone, a training zone encompassing a Mac lab and a PC lab, and a coffee and wine lounge, besides a digital gallery.
The three days will focus on business, technology, and creativity - with a programme of workshops and seminars addressed by international speakers.
IT company Megabyte, nation-al carrier Air Malta, the Malta Communications Authority, radio station 89.7 Bay and Nexos Lighting have already signed up as main sponsors of the event, Mr Mallia said. Camilleri Wines' Master Group is to support the Pellini Lounge.
Last year, the event saw 24 exhibitors and 1,500 unique visitors, 10 per cent of whom were foreign. This year's expo has been assured international coverage in the industry press, Mr Mallia added. Futurenet, publishers of Computer Arts and 3D World are supporting the DA Expo.
The event's portal at www.digitalartsexpo.com has had over 900,000 hits since launch and receives around 8,000 visitors a month. Over 4,000 members have registered between last year and this.
"Top international brands, leading foreign personalities, and many of Malta's best known IT companies from every sector of the industry make the DA Expo a meeting place for professionals involved in digital technology, media, IT, communication and digital entertainment," Mr Mallia remarked.
"It is a valuable opportunity for business to business networking. After all, every company needs marketing and advertising, and the DA Expo is an ideal platform for future business relations."
