Michel Montaigne was a politician, a writer, a visionary, a future husband... and, ultimately, a man.
In an original play in Maltese, Tyrone Grima seizes the extraordinary and mundane aspects of the unprecedented life of this French writer and presents it in a contemporary setting.
Michel's life seems to be perfect; he is a successful politician, a pleasant person, an excellent friend to Etienne and his girlfriend Antoinette and a good partner for Francesca, his soon-to-be wife. But the spirit of freely entertaining doubt, decidedly present in Michel's life and works, brings up the underlying and hazy side of his character, which entangles an array of feelings, experiences, challenges and also a dream.
As the story unfolds, the audience is invited into a journey of discovery of this one man and his thoughts that equally marked intellectuals and laymen throughout the ages.
Michel is an inspirational drama that brings to life Montaigne's scepticism in an innovative and capturing way, which surely provokes thought and challenges prejudice.
Theatrencore's Michel will run between Friday and Sunday at the MITP.
The cast includes Toni Ellul, Stefan Farrugia, Keith Borg, Mireille Mifsud, Elaine Falzon, Nadine Genovese, Claire Bonello and Dorianne Bonanno.
