The quarry worker who was critically injured in a fall last Thursday is in a stable condition but still in intensive care.

Louis Cassar, 32, was unconscious but still breathing after he plunged to the floor of the quarry eight storeys down, lodged halfway along the hill leading to Għar Lapsi.

He was carried to a waiting ambulance by rescue workers and paramedics in a delicate operation.

Colleagues said they had last seen him walking towards machinery placed at the quarry's edge but, because they carried on working, none of them saw him fall. When he failed to return, they spotted him at the bottom of the quarry.
